Pennant Awarded Contract for the development of a Virtual Reality Parachute Trainer with the Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S)

Pennant Training Systems Limited (PTSL) has been awarded a Contract by the Flight Simulation and Synthetic Trainers Project Team (FsAST PT) for the design, manufacture, installation and support of eight (8) Virtual Reality Parachute Trainers (VRPTs) for the Parachute Training School (PTS) at RAF Brize Norton.

The VRPT will be an immersive training aid, giving the student a real time experience in a virtual world that simulates a parachute descent in either free fall or static line. The VRPT will allow the student to practise his parachuting and malfunction skills in a safe but realistic virtual environment.

The instructor will be able to control environmental conditions (time of day, weather conditions), from a dedicated control console, inject malfunctions, monitor a student’s jump and debrief using digital capture. Students will be able to jump as individuals or as a ‘stick’ within the same virtual environment. There will be three environments available including Weston-on-the-Green, a wooded area and water.

PTS provides the instruction for selected personnel from the 3 Services in all aspects of military static line parachuting for Armed Forces personnel. It also provides the training required for selected personnel to become Parachute Jumping Instructors, Synthetic Parachute Instructors and Assistant Parachute Jumping Instructors, as well as providing instructor and student support for Air Concentration Exercise detachments.

Managed by the FsAST PT the training devices will be supported for an initial period of four (4) years with options to extend.

Pennant Training Systems Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Pennant International Group plc, based in Cheltenham, England and is listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) of the London Stock Exchange.
