Pennant Training Systems Ltd (Pennant) recently provided a training course on its Hand Skill Trainer (known as GenSkill) for three engineering apprentices seeking to represent the UK in the Worldskills event.
WorldSkills is held every two years and is the biggest vocational education and skills excellence competition in the world that seeks to reflect global industry. The competitors are all under the age of 25 and represent their country after qualifying through a number of regional and national finals. They demonstrate technical abilities, both individually and collectively, to execute specific tasks for which they study and/or perform in their workplace.
The apprentices who attended the course in Cheltenham are competing in the Aircraft Maintenance category and training hard to be part of the UK team at the 44th World Finals in Abu Dhabi (October 2017). Over 76 member countries will be travelling to the Middle East to compete in around 50 skill competitions.
GenSkill provides an ideal platform for students to practise rigging procedures, including wire-locking, whilst removing and installing typical aircraft components in a confined space. The training aid is in service with aeronautical engineering schools and defence colleges around the world and has previously been used as the test piece for this competency at a number of Worldskills finals.
