Telford College Visit – Nov 2019

On Thursday 21st November 2019, Pennant’s CEO, Phil Walker and Aviation Skills Partnership (ASP) Chairman, John Ponsonby, visited Telford College, hosted by Graham Guest (Principal & Chief Executive) and Janet Stephens (Deputy Principal).

Telford college is a key partner of the proposed Whittle Academy, based at Cosford and a signatory of the UK “Charter for Aviation Skills”, which sets out five areas of activity that aim to deliver outcomes collectively and consistently in order to address the skills shortage in aviation.

It’s been fantastic to see Telford College recently launch a new series of aviation engineering courses (the first in the Midlands) including Aviation Engineering Level 2, Engineering – Technical Diploma and HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Level 4FT, to just name a few; and to see the great success in enrolling 50 students onto the first course already.

During the visit, Phil and John, had the opportunity to visit the world class virtual reality suite and see the incredible work being produced by the students.

John Ponsonby OBE, chairman of ASP said: “The UK needs to re-establish its place as one of the world’s leading providers of skilled people to feed the growth in the aviation industry. The UK has a long and proud aviation and aerospace heritage and is recognised the world over for the standard, quality, and content of aviation training. Pennant/ASP’s aim in launching a ‘charter for aviation skills’ is to build on the industry success to date and to increase our collaboration and co-operation. It is a fundamental pillar of our new approach, and we look forward to working with the industry to deliver the 5 Charter goals.”

We look forward to working with Telford in the future and seeing how the students’ progress.
